Given :- He said to me , "I will show you". (change the narration.)

Answer :-

Points To Remember :- Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being told to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example :-

→ Mila said, "I'm organizing a party." (Direct)

→ Mila said that she was organizing a party. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. In place of comma we use "that" .

Also,

  • said changes into = told .
  • will / shall = would .

then,

→ He said to me , "I will show you" .

He told me that he would show me .

Direct: He said to me, "I will show you".

Indirect: He told me that he would show me.

There are two kinds of speeches.

1. Direct Speech:

  • In Direct speech, we repeat the exact words by the speaker. Reporting speech is placed between inverted commas. For example, He said, " I have lost my pen".

2. Indirect Speech:

  • In Indirect Speech, we repeat in our own words what is said by the speaker. generally, we use "said that" in this speech. For example, He said that he had lost his pen.

When we change direct speech to indirect speech:

present simple changed to past simple

present continuous changed to past continuous

present perfect changed to past perfect.

present perfect continuous changed to past perfect continuous

past simple change to past perfect

past continuous changed to past perfect continuous
