Indirect/Reported speech is speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.
For example: Josh said,"I am doing my homework." (Direct)
Josh said that he was doing his homework. (Indirect)
In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words and pronouns like 'this' changes to 'that', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'you' changes to 'I' and many other words will have to be made.
He said to me,"What are you doing?" (Direct)
He asked me what I was doing. (Indirect/Reported)
Hope it helps :)
