Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being said to a third person/reporting what happened to third person.
Example: Ava said,"I have school tomorrow." (Direct)
Ava said that she had school the next day. (Indirect)
In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'will' changes to 'would', 'can' changes to 'could', 'today' changes to 'that day' and many other words will have to be made.
He said to the porter,"When will the next train arrive?" (Direct)
He asked the porter when the next train would arrive. (Indirect)
Hope it helps :)

_______________
◆ Indirect Speech -
He asked the porter when the next train would arrive .
______
• The inverted commas to be removed .
• Since the words are said by a third person , the pronouns should be changed .
• As the words are reported at a later time , so the tenses are changed too .
• The question mark must be removed in case of interrogative sentences .
