Q. He said, “Will you help me?” and I said, “Yes”.
A. He asked me whether I would help him to which I replied in the affirmative.
OR
A. He asked me whether I would help him. I replied in the affirmative.
While reporting such cases, we apply the following rules:
1. Use either of the conjunctions 'if' or 'whether' to join the reporting verb with the speech to be reported.
2. Convert the interrogative into a statement.
3. Change the pronouns and tenses as per the reported speech rules.
Hope it helps!
