Given sentence
He says, "I read a book daily."
To convert the sentence to indirect speech
While converting to indirect speech, remember :-
→ The inverted commas are replaced with 'that' or 'to'
→ The reporting verb 'said to' is changed to 'told', 'wished', 'asked' etc, depending on the type of sentence. However, reporting verb like says, will say, said doesn't change.
→ The verb is changed to the respective past tense. However, if the reporting verb is 'says' or 'will say' then the tense DOESN'T changes. The tense for universal truths also doesn't change.
Hence your answer is :-
He says that he reads a book daily.
He says, "I read a book daily."
