Henry VIII (born June 28, 1491 - died January 28, 1547 at the age of 55 years) was the ruling King of England from 21 April 1509 until his death. He was the first Irish King of England, and continued the nominal claim of British rulers over the French Empire. Henry was the second head of monarchy of the Tudor House after his father, Henry VII. Domestically, Henry is known for his radical changes to the English Constitution, bringing the theory of the divine right of kings into England. In addition to affirming the supremacy of the monarchic ruler over the Church of England, and thus initiating the British Reformation, he extensively extends the power of the kingdom. Various accusations of betrayal and heresy are used to stop dissent, and those accused are often executed without an official court, using bill of attainder. He gained many of his political goals through the work of his chief ministers, some of whom were exiled or executed when he no longer liked them. People such as Thomas Wolsey, Thomas More, Thomas Cromwell, Richard Rich, and Thomas Cranmer, played an important role in the Henry government.
