He was punished yesterday is already passive. As there is no doer in the sentence. To make it into active we need a doer for eg. Me.

So active voice can be

I punished him yesterday.

The following sentence is- passive voice.

  • After turning it to active voice, it becomes- "Someone punished him yesterday."
  • Here, the subject 'he' becomes an object and the object 'someone' which was invisible becomes the subject.
  • The verb 'punish' sits in its past form 'stolen'.
  • Another example of active voice is- "Reema scolded her child for no reason".
  • Here, the structure of the sentence gets changed but the meaning of it remains unchanged.
