According to me the responsibilities of both are :-

•To guide his class/group

Point one : To maintain discipline means that the class monitor has the duty to make the class quiet or talking about head he has the responsibility of making sure that every member is with the group and maintaining discipline
Point two : To guide means that a class monitor is considered as a leading person who leads his/her class and head makes his mountaineering team go through right way, protect them, etc.
