The Health And Physical Education Education Essay

From birth, children have a natural curiosity to explore their world and to challenge their abilities. Australia believes on the capacity of each student to be successful learner and participant in their community. Starting with a good education related to health with younger and older children will provides opportunities to integrate a wide range of learning skills. When education values their desires, it stimulates several learning areas in student experience as physical wellbeing, social participation, verbal and non-verbal interaction, creativity, problem-solving and technology to represent their thinking; the students results with an introduction of positive attitudes towards physical activity (ACARA, 2012) . When education helps children to develop their interests through actions and decisions, the purpose of guiding autonomy and responsibility skills is best developed and acquired in the student lifelong understanding.

Queensland government believes that introducing physical activity emphasis and value the development of healthy lifestyle. Nutrition and quality wellbeing through physical participation is a requirement in the education system and can improve school ambiance, and decrease social behaviours, safety, productivity and wellbeing (QCARF, 2007). Lessons plan provided by Physical Education teachers contribute considerably to the overall physical activity levels in children and encourage physical activity in and out of the school by applying what they learned in their environment. With a range of movement skills, participation in energetic physical activity, engaging in a spatial awareness will increase responsibility in their social and emotional wellbeing and their own health and physical wellbeing. It helps to develop small and large muscles necessary in everyday life, confidence, and sense of identity, promote children’s sense of belonging and connectedness. Physical education will likely reduce the risk of chronic health problems and help the population to live longer. Australian Curriculum, Assessment Reporting Authority (2012) made a Curriculum Framework that sets out the essential skills that students are expected to attain. It also, assists the teachers in comprehension, competency and understanding in their teaching program when putting in place their lessons. These requirements are represented as learning outcomes. In the context presented by ‘Health and Physical Education’ (1998), there are six outcomes in the Curriculum Framework Health and Physical Education Learning Area Statement (The State of Queensland, 2009): 1. effective communicators 2. sense of identity 3. strong sense of wellbeing 4. connected with and contribute to their world 5. confident and involved learners and 6. social, cultural and environment awareness. It allows students to acknowledge and learn social behaviour, think positive in their personal achievement; ‘Health and Physical Education’ will not disadvantage any study area. For example to attain these outcomes, a physical activity program may include numeracy (maths concept, calculation, estimation), literacy (comprehension, communication, reading, writing), social capability (collaboration, managing relationship), ethnical and culture skills (equitable participation, ethical decisions and understanding consequences of their actions, empathy, respect and beliefs, connection with their history and culture in their world), inclusion (social health issue, physical disabilities). It also links different learning such as geography, environment, science and physic. Their engagement in physical activities and cultural practises enhance student identity and concept of human interaction, environment and health relevant to our community contribution in the school learning system (ACARA, 2012). Encouraging, providing and accessing to healthy lifestyle practises and information at school, impact on long-term changes in students life. Evidence shows that healthy students are better learners; their levels of educational achievement increased, health improved, and classroom performance, participation and student attitudes are linked with health and fitness (DETE, "n.d."). However, responsibility for their own health and well-being of others is left to their own personal decision-making.

The Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, has a high relevant list of wellbeing and lifespan strands combine with the student learning experiences. Physical activities provided in an encouraging, enjoyable way without competition and sense of failure will meet the students’ needs in different learning areas (Education, Training and the Arts; Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation; Queensland Health, "n.d."). Health and Physical education will provide a positive evidence of an active, economic and social community behaviour changes in our twenty-first century education.
