All the matter in the universe contains heat energy. Heat energy is present everywhere in the surrounding, in our body, volcanoes, etc.
When the particles in liquids, solids, and gases move and collide with each other it results in heat energy. It can be transferred from high energy particles to lower energy particles.
When sufficient heat energy is provided the collisions between particles increases and they try to overcome the bond energies which holds them together in a chemical bond.
Thus the melting point of a solid substance converts the tightly bound solid to loosely bound solid particles.
Solids conduct heat better than liquids, which are in turn better conductors than gases. The particles in a solid are most tightly bond and their positions are more or less fixed relative to each other (Fig. 5a). The force between adjacent particles is strong, making heat transfer by collision the most efficient.
