Sequence of events followed while heating a solid:

  • With application of heat, the temperature of the solid increases.

  • After reaching the melting point , the temperature remains constant during transition of the phase from solid to liquid.

  • Again, with increase in applied heat the temperature of the liquid goes on increasing until it reaches the boiling point.

  • After reaching the boiling point, the temperature again becomes constant during phase transition from liquid to gas.

  • That is why we see constant temperature at T_{M} \:and\: T_{B}.
