when current is passed through a purely resistive material or conductor then the energy is consumed or dissipated in the form of heat... it is called the heating effect of current.
its applications are appliances like heating iron... electric bulb.... toaster etc.

When an electric circuit is purely resistive, that is a config. of resistors connected to the battery, the source energy gets continually dissipated in the form of energy called heating effect of electric current. (pg number - 216)

It is used in appliances like electric geyser, toaster and iron
