Heavy army tanks are made to move on wide continuos chain belts,why?

The chain has a larger area and hence the pressure exerted by the tank decreases. So the tank will also not sink in the ground.

Heavy army tanks are very heavy and apply huge pressure on the land. So to overcome this pressure these tanks are made to move on wide continuous chain belts. This helps in its easy movement.
