Genetic drift. It is under the mechanism of genetic drift that allele frequencies of a population change over the course of generations due to chance/sampling error.

Genetic drifts happens in all populations but its effects are bigger in smaller populations.

Genetic drifts also have large effects when a population is reduced by natural calamities (like floods) and also due to migration of a small group to form a separate colony.
