Height of two points X and Y from the free surface of water is 20cm and 30cm respectively. Find out px : py ?

refractive indices of the water and the oil are 1.33 and 1.30

height of water =20 cm

height of oil= 20 cm

Shift due to water Δtw=1 - (1/μ)d

=[ 1- (1/1.33)]x20

=1/4 x 20

=5cm

shift due to oil :

1 - (1/μ)d

=[ 1- (1/1.30)]x20

=4.6cm

total shift = 5+4.6=9.6cm

apparent depth = 40- 9.6

= 30.4cm between the surface

i believe p is for pressure so

px = ρg*20

py= ρg*30

so , px/py = 2/3
