height of water =20 cm
height of oil= 20 cm
Shift due to water Δtw=1 - (1/μ)d
=[ 1- (1/1.33)]x20
=1/4 x 20
=5cm
shift due to oil :
1 - (1/μ)d
=[ 1- (1/1.30)]x20
=4.6cm
total shift = 5+4.6=9.6cm
apparent depth = 40- 9.6
= 30.4cm between the surface
