Nancy was Helen’s rag-doll that she always carried with her.
In May 1888 Helen visited Boston along
with Miss Sullivan. At Perkins Institute Nancy got quite dirty while playing.
Seeing the doll dirty, the laundress at the Perkins Institute too k Nancy to
give her a wash. The bath completely destroyed the doll. She looked a formless
heap of rags and cotton. Helen had to discard her deformed beloved doll.
