hey !!!

here is your answer,

________________

Helen's constant companions were Martha Washington, the daughter of the cook and her old setter, Belle. Although Martha was a few years older than Helen, Helen enjoyed spending time with her. They used to be either in the kitchen, licking off spoons or making ice cream. Or they used to feed the hens and turkeys.

Answer :

Martha Washington and Belle, the dog, were Helen Keller's childhood companions in the book 'The Story Of My Life.'

Martha Washington was Helen's cook's daughter. She was an African-American. Both of them spent a lot of time playing in the kitchen by making dough balls and helping to make ice cream and coffee. They also used to feed the chicken and turkeys and collected the guinea-fowl eggs. They indulged in a lot of pranks and once Martha almost succeeded in cutting off Helen's hair. Martha could understand Helen's signs and she used this fact to control her and get what she wanted. Martha happily submitted to Helen's domineering nature.

Belle was an old setter dog. It was very lazy and preferred to sleep by the fireplace rather than playing with Helen. Belle helped and accompanied Helen while walking and climbing stairs. Helen tried to teach the sign language to Belle but it was very dull, lazy and inattentive.
