it is because helium atom has 2 electrons in its k shell and it is the last shell
thus valence electrons=2
and k shell electrons   =2
thus 2-2=0
thus helium atom has a valency of 0

Answer:

Helium atom has 2 electrons in its outermost shell and its duplet is complete. Hence the valency of helium atom is zero. It can neither gain nor lose electrons.
