Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." This quotation by Helen Keller demonstrated the risks that are involved in everyday life. With every risk a person takes, change comes hand in hand with it. Some of the changes may be internal or external. The external changes are easier to see than the internal changes, but both changes occur in about the same way. Change is a slow and gradual process that defines the true character of a person's personality. A problem, or crisis, can often cause some of the most dramatic change in a person, even if the change is forced. In The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, many of the characters undergo personal changes that leave a significant impact on their life. Searching for acceptance within, Jim Casy changed from a town preacher, to part of the Joad family, to a leader in John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. In the beginning of the novel, Jim Casy's open mind permitted him to talk about his past, to listen to other people, and to realize the value of opinions. At the beginning of the novel, Jim Casy reflected on the main aspects that ruled his life as a preacher and as a person. He told Tom Joad that he refused to be a preacher anymore because he had lost the spirit of God. Casy felt that the people had lost the meaning of the spirit and that he could not preach anymore if he had lost it as well. It is true life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. Helen Keller’s life is a perfect reflection of this maxim. After the illness she lost her hearing and seeing abilities. She overcame her disabilities with sheer courage and adventurous spirit. She dared to do and learn almost of everything. Not she pursued knowledge and learning enthusiastically and determinedly, she also participated in all kind of adventures.

She loved life’s all good aspects to the fullest. She had quite a many hobbies and interests. She loved being in the country enjoying sports and outdoor activities such as rowing, boating, sailing, cycling, walking in the woods, etc. When she was quite a little girl, she learned to row and swim, and during the summer, when she was at Wrentham, Massachusetts, she almost lived in her boat. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than to take her friends out rowing when they visited her. She also enjoyed canoeing. Sailing was also her favourite amusement. In the summer of 1901 she visited Nova Scotia, and had opportunities such as she had not enjoyed before making the acquaintance of the ocean. During one of her sailing expeditions, Helen’s boat had been trapped in the storm, but the skillful captain had steered it safely to the shore.

Helen’s life teaches us if we dare the impossible we can make it possible with our courage, hard-work and optimism. Without this daring for adventure, Helen would not have been as successful as she was with it.
