Darkness’ and ‘light’ are often metaphors or symbolic of ‘ignorance’ and ‘knowledge’ respectively. At times ‘darkness’ and ‘light’ also stand for ‘sorrow’ and ‘happiness’ also. So here the sentence means ‘let us go from ignorance to knowledge’ or ‘let us go from sadness to happiness.  

The speaker in the sentence is appealing or asking the listeners to move from an ordinary state to great state.
