The constant flow of wealth from india to england for which india did not get any adequate economic, commercial or material has been described as drain of wealth.
The ‘Drain of wealth’ from India to England started after 1757, when the Company acquired political power and, therefore, acquired wealth through dastak, dastur, nazarana and private trade.
The Company servants, after 1757, extorted immense wealth from Indian rulers, zamindars, merchants and common-people, amounting to not less than 6 million between 1758 and 1765; four times more than the total land revenue collection of Bengal in 1765.

The drain of wealth was typically “a phenomenon of colonial rule.” The person to draw pointed attention to this drain of resources from India to England was Dadabhai Naoroji in his book Poverty and Un-British Rule in India (1871).
