As a polyglot myself (I can converse in 9 languages), my answer may surprise you. It’s better to know one foreign language really, really well than 10 languages superficially .
What I mean by that is that the personal and professional opportunities to be had through a foreign language grow exponentially as you get better at a language. As a near-native speaker, for instance, you have 10x the opportunities to use a language than as an advanced speaker. Advanced speakers have 10x the opportunities to use their language than intermediate speakers, and so forth.
