oxidation and reduction process occurs simultaneously this can be proved by the following example :-
as you know that oxidation is the process in which gaining of oxygen takes place and reduction is the process of reducing oxygen from it.
now, for eg. magnesium oxide + hydrogen --gives -- magnesium + water
in this reaction magnesium oxide is reduced to magnesium and hydrogen has been oxidzised to water
hope it may help you :-)

Hey!
_______________
Oxidation and reduction occurs simultaneously.
Well, let's first define these two terms,
Oxidation is addition of oxygen, reduction is addition of H2.
Oxidation is removal of hydrogen, and reduction is removal of O2.
So,
Example -
Well, let's take an easy example,
CuO + H2 =====> Cu + H2O
Well, here we see, that CuO (Copper oxide) was reduced to copper and H2 was oxidised to water.
CuO is the oxidising agent here and H2 is the reducing agent.
Oxidising agents are substances which gives oxygen and gains hydrogen or remove hydrogen from other compounds.
Reducing agents are which give hydrogen.
