QUESTION:

  • The area of a trapezium with equal non-parallel sides is 168m². If the lengths of the parallel sides are 36m and 20m, find the lengths of the non-parallel sides

SOLUTION + EXPLANATION:

We know that area of a trapezium

1 × (sum of 11 sides) ×height =168

2

∴336=(36+20)×height

∴height = ( 336 ÷ 56 )m =6m

∴ length of non parallel side

 =  \sqrt{ {6}^{2} }  +   \sqrt{ {8}^{2} }

 =  \sqrt{100}

= 10m

ANSWER:

  • LENGTHS OF NON PARALLEL SIDE THEREFORE IS 10CM
