ANSWER:

Plastids occur in most plant cells and are absent in animal cells. Like the mitochondria, the plastids also have their own genome (i.e., DNA) and ribosomes. They are self-replicating organelles like the mitochondria, i.e., they have the power to divide. Plastids are of following types:

1. Chromoplasts => Coloured plastids (except green colour)
2. Chloroplasts => Green-coloured plastids
3. Leucoplasts => The colourless plastids

The chloroplasts are probably the most-known of the plastids. These are responsible for photosynthesis. The chloroplast is filled with thylakoids, which is where photosynthesis occurs, and chlorophyll. Chromoplasts are what the name describes, a place for the pigments to be stored and synthesized in the plant

Plant cells: Plastids: As previously mentioned, plastids are doubled membraned 'sac-like' organelles, generally involved in either the manufacture or storage of food. They include chloroplasts, chromoplasts and leucoplasts.
