The life at an IIT is super fabulous. We live an adventurous life . Its the best 4 years of our life.
Waking up 15 -5mins before classes.
We complete almost every work just before the deadline. So at the end of 4 years , we have perfected our talent of doing things at last time.
Most people think of us as nerd. Bt we are not. 80% students rarely study at IIT. But when exams are on the head they study like hell (after all they have the patience of doing so). And that study just before exams is adventurous. A pic of my friends around 8 hours before exam will define this . They were so engrossed in studies that didn't even notice me clicking them:
We save a lot of trees every year. Completing a semester with at max 2 copies . Our study material consists of photos of notes, ppts, ebooks, video lectures.
Classes, huh. We have classes stuffed up. From 8 am to 5 pm most of the days with 2 hours break (12pm to 2pm). But most of the classes are boring. Either we use phone or fulfill our sleep.
Our college life is full of fests. My college has 3 fest (sports fest, cultural fest, technical fest). Then each department has its own departmental fest. Further there is Inter IIT, in which all IITs across the country participate and the IITians get a common platform .
Every other day there some sort of guest lecture or an event going on at some part of the campus
Most of the students are involved in some extra curricular activities and some are really good at them.
We remain awake up to 2–3 am or sometimes even the whole night. So we are actually 24×7 available. Even at class , some of us can reply to your messages.
We guys are super lazy. This forces us to create shortcuts for almost everything (everything means everything , literally ;-) ). This shortcut thing has become so famous that people have made a word out of it - “ Jugaad”
We boast off our IIT tag but that is limited just up to 1st semester.
Best part of life at an IIT is that although it's a technical institution , still you can pursue anything as your career (singer, dancer, actor, sportsperson, writer , professor, teacher, CEOs, brokers and lot more). Thanks to the large number of resources and platform provided by the college.
We watch a lot movies, TV series, play games together like C. S, Fifa, Nfs.
Your birthday here will be super adventurous with all the hostel super excited to celebrate your day.
At times our life gets frustrating and cruel. With all people expecting too much from you, high package, superb grades , great internships . But you may not always live up to those expectations.
Some of the guys over here don't get an opportunity to talk to a female classmate in the whole college life . You may find it hard to believe but it's the darker side of studying at IIT.
A committed guy is like an icon to everyone . ;-)
Friendship at IIT is made in heaven. You really get to make really true friends.
We dress properly only during pronights, dj nights and fests. Otherwise we roam in typical pyjamas and chappals.
You get to meet and live with the most intelligent mind of the country.
I am attaching a few pics of my college's cultural fest- Kashiyatra. (Pic courtesy- the photographic club iit bhu)
Finally I would quote a line by Chetan Bhagat- “ As IITians , we are expected to conquer the world, something we know isn't likely to happen .”
Edit-1:
Our annual technical fest Technex is here . And guess who are here :
Mr. Balaji Vishwanathan (the king of Quora himself)
Mr. Vinod Dham (Father of Pentium Chip).
Mr.Dilip Chhabra (founder , DC Design . Remember the car in Tarzan - the wonder car.)
Mr.Sam Pitroda (founding commissioner, UN Broadband commission for digital development)
Mr. Balaji Holur (senior VP , Samsung Research India).
Mr. JN Reddy (Reagents Professor, Texas A&M UNIVERSITY).
