Eid al-Fitr is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭrmeans "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period.
