Directional bonding

The meaning of covalent bonds being directional is that atoms bonded covalently prefer specific orientations in space relative to one another. As a result, molecules in which atoms are bonded covalently have definite shapes.

Non directional bonding

the change of ionic bond is uniform in all direction . an ion is surrounded by other ions from all the directions whereas the covalent bonds are formed by only one side of the electrons thus ionic bond is non directional in nature.
