Hi
Nice question

Solution :-

Ethanol (C2H5OH)

Given mass = 2.3g
Molar mass = 12*2 + 5*1 + 16 + 1 = 46g

no. of moles of ethanol = given mass/molar mass = 2.3/46 = 0.05 moles

Given mass of water (in grams) = 500g

molality \: = \frac{no \: of \: moles \: of \: ethanol \times 1000}{mass \: of \: solvent \: in \: grams}

Molality = (0.05 × 1000)/500 = 0.1

Hope this helps.

Anonymous: Your calculation is wrong as 1000/500 = 2 & 2 × 0.05 = 0.1
Anonymous: I correct it ^_^
Anonymous: as 1 kg = 1000grams
Anonymous: This is the formula which can be applied when the mass of the solvent is given in grams
Anonymous: and molality = no. of moles of solute in 1 kg of solution
