Hello everyone, I had a doubt. Today I was studying my physics textbook and my ma'am explained me that a karate player swinging his hand multiple times before striking is an example of gaining momentum. I thought of this to be wrong as when he brings his hand up before striking the initial velocity becomes zero, so if he brings his arm up and down multiple times before striking he tries to improve accuracy instead of gaining momentum. If you put the equation as p=mv, then swinging his hand multiple times before striking to gain momentum and swinging hand once is the same. Please correct me with an example if I am wrong.

I explain you, that this is example of change in rate of momentum. because when karate player swing his hand in air it's initial velocity become zero but as he keep it moving it's velocity goes on increasing and rate of momentum increases.
according to Newton second law rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to force. so he swing his hand to gain momentum before striking. so example of your teacher is correct. you has some misunderstanding and you have to clear it.
