  • The chromosomes occurs in pairs.i.e., 2 sister chromatids join to form a chromosome .
  • These chromosomes separate at the time of gamete formation .They separate in such a manner that each gamete gets only 1 chromosome.
  • different chromosomal pairs separate independent of each other. that is if one pair separates it separation has nothing to do with the other pair of chromosomes.

Every cell has '2n' no of chromosomes. But for gametes or sex cells, they require only 'n' no of chromosomes. So, they divide using meiosis to form haploid cells.
