roasting is a process of heating the concentrated ore to a high temperature in presence of air.and generally sulphide ores are roasted so the gas evolved after reaction is SO2.
If an ore is a carbonate or hydrated oxide it is heated in absence of air to a temperature that is high but insufficient to melt the ore.that process is called calcination.and evolved gas here is CO2.
9. (a) CaCO3 -> CaO+CO2
(b) Ca (OH)2+ H2SO4->CaSO4+2H2O
(c)2HNO3+2Mg->2MgNO3+H2
10.ionic compounds when in their molten form dissociate to form ions & ions conduct electricity easily.
(b) Na has 1 electron in its valence shell
and cl has 7 electrons.Na gives it's last shell electron to Cl due to which it becomes Na+
and Cl receives that electron and become Cl-
and these opposite charged ions attract each other and forms compound NaCl.
Mg has 2 electrons in its last shell
and oxygen has 6 electrons in its valence shell
Mg gives it's 2 electrons to Oxygen and becomes Mg + whereas oxygen being received 2 electrons becomes O- and both combined to form MgO.
