CEREBELLUM
It is also known as "little Cerebrum". It is the second largest part of Human Brain.
It consist of two lateral cerebellar hemisphere and central worm shaped part know as Vermis.
Like Cerebrum, it also has its grey matter on the outside.
It comprises three layers of cells and fibres.
The cerebellum also has some specialised cells which are Golgi cells, basket cells and granule cells.
The cross section of the cerebellar hemisphere shows a tree like branching of grey and white matter know as "Arbor vitae".
Function -
✓ It controls rapid muscular activities such as running, typing and even talking.
✓ All activities are involuntary, but may be involve learning in their early stages.
✓ Alcohol affects the cerebellum so, it behaves as depressants.
✓ It plays an important role in motor control.
Damage of CEREBELLUM may cause disorders in fine movement, equilibrium, posture, and motor learning in humans.
