PARTS OF SPEECH :

A sentence, a phrase or a word has a meaning to emphasise. The category of the meaning of that speech is called Parts of Speech.

TYPES :

There are eight types of Parts of Speech.

1>> NOUN : A word is a Noun, when it represents any name or any object.

Ex.
i) Ram, Table, Book, School and etc.
ii) I have a book.
In this sentence, 'book' is a noun.

2>> PRONOUN : Without the repeating of a noun, which word is used to make a suitable speech or sentence, is called a pronoun. In easy words, the word which can replace a noun, is a Pronoun.

Ex.
i) I am very happy now.
ii) We are going to school.

The most used Pronouns are -
I, we, you, he, she, it, they, us, your, yours, our, etc.

3>> VERB : The word, which means any work or act is a Verb.

Ex.

i) I eat rice.
ii) They eat mangoes.

Here, 'eat' is a verb


4>> Adjective : A word, which is used to judge or describe a noun, is called Adjective.

Ex.
i) He is a good boy.
ii) These mangoes are ripe.

Here, 'good' and 'these' are Adjectives.

5>> Adverb : The words which can modify Parts of Speech (except noun, pronoun, interjection), Phrase and any sentence, are Adverbs.

Ex.

i) He walks slowly.
ii) The horse can run very fast.

Here, 'slowly' and 'very' are Adverbs.

6>> PREPOSITION : A word, which is used to determine the position of Noun, is called a Preposition.

Ex.

i) The book is on the table.
ii) We were walking in the sun.

Here, 'on' and 'in' are prepositions.

There a many prepositions.
A few are - on, in, up, upon, between, by, with, etc.

7>> CONJUNCTION : A word, which connects or joins two words or sentences are called a Conjunction.

Ex.

i) I have a bat and a ball.
ii) I can but I will not do it.

Here, 'and' and 'but' are conjunctions.

The other conjunctions are - yet, though, as, because, since, so, if, etc.

8>> INTERJECTION : A word, which shows the feelings or emotions of the subject, is called Interjection.

Ex.

i) Alas! He is dead.
ii) Hurray! We have won the match.

Here, 'Alas' and 'Hurray' are Interjections.
