While I was sitting in a coffee day, sipping a 108rupees Americaano, I noticed a small boy aged 10years begging! Some were shooing him away and some were giving him a piece of their mind about ill effects of begging...My eyes were just locked on his innocent face and small eyes. Suddenly he saw me and there was some weird connection in those 3 seconds of look ...

He came close to me and didnt ask for money....we had an interesting conversation.

 Shivoo: What is your name?

Boy : Raju

Shivoo: Which village/area are you from?

Raju: Some palya (I didnt register that)

He suddenly forgot about begging and was interested with our conversation

Raju: What I was doing with my computer?

Shivoo: <Didnt answer> Do you go to school?

Raju: <proudly> Yes I go to the government school

Shivoo: Are you happy with the school?

Raju: Yes ..I love it.

Shivoo: What are you doing here?

Raju: My parents have gone out of town to work and they will be back only on the weekend. So 5 days I stay with my neighbor. They give me one breakfast in the morning and school gives me lunch ...but I feel hungry by evening

Shivoo: Why ?

Raju: Because I play a lot after school so I feel very hungry. Last two days I am not playing to see if it reduces my hunger

Shivoo: Did it?

Raju: No..i feel bored and feel more hungry because I am always thinking of food

Shivoo: So what did you do yesterday?

Raju: I slept very early hoping to get breakfast when I get up

Shivoo: Do you want to eat pani puri?

Raju: Can you buy me a masala puri?

By that time, coffee day staff came and asked him to leave ...I asked him to sit next to me in the chair so the staff just left. Raju comfortably sat in the chair next to me and we continued the conversation ...

I left my laptop on the table and got him a masala puri which was just next to the coffee day.

We came back to the coffee day. I gave him 20rupees ...

Raju: I dont need the money now. I am full. not hungry anymore (Smiles)

Shivoo: What will you do tomorrow?

Raju: I will come here and search for you

Shivoo: I wont be here tomorrow

Raju was very sad and confused with my answer ...I didnt want to turn him into a beggar so told him a small lie ...

Shivoo: You know something ...I also didnt have anything to eat when I was your age. I survived by working and eating with the small money I earned.

Suddenly his eyes lit up ..I never imagined those small two eyes had so much brightness ..I could see the twinkle in his eyes. He was very curious to know my story ...I continued..

Shivoo: But you know I never missed school. I did very well in my studies and never neglected my lunch because that was the only meal I got in the day. I never missed playing with my friends and studying..If I felt very hungry, I drank a glass of water and concentrated on my studies ...I forgot about my hunger when I read books.

Raju: So if i study hard...can i also become like you?

Shivoo: Of course yes ...

Raju; (Aftrer a pause) Will you buy me some books as I dont have anything else other than what school has given me. I studied them all.

Shivoo: Why do you need more books?

Raju: So tomorrow, If I am hungry I can read those books

I got him lots of story books and an encyclopedia and gave him a big biscuit packet which can help him cruise through next few days until he sees his parents ...

I have never faced any difficulty in my life ...I never knew what hunger was but a small lie from me helped the child find a hero in me. Its that feeling which will make him fight for things in life in the right way and not take the easy way out --begging! He firmly believed that concentrating on school can change his tomorrow. His hunger was quenched by the masala puri I got him but his real hunger for knowledge just got kindled. I hope he retains the brightness I saw in his eyes ..

I am sure he will think twice before begging..I hope we all think once atleast before giving money or shooing away kids when they come to us while we are sipping our 108rupees Americano !

"Everybody needs a hero

The Beggar

Good morning/afternoon to one and all present over here
We are students sitting at the feet of teachers, yearning for their wisdom and begging for lessons that might one day make us a complete artists
The beggar is the only person in the universe not obliged to study appearance.
Without the rich heart, wealth is an ugly beggar.

We always find people saying all kind of bad thing for beggar. But no one cares to feel what they feel , to see their good side.

Begging would have been the best option if God had given his talents to a only few. Fortunately he gave us all our compatible gifts respectively, so it is an offence to be a chronic beggar.
No one is Beggar by choice. If you are born poor it is not your fault but if you die poor it is definitely your fault.

Recently we had flood in Kerala. Did you know that a cancer-stricken beggar donated 5,000 for Kerala Flood Relief.

So, Today I and my friends are going to take you on a journey to know more about a beggar and his perspective about life. So let's learn the art of finding pleasure from the misery and begin with this beautiful play on the lesson the beggar by Anton Chekhov.

Here are the characters :-
Lushkoff the Beggar
Sergie the advocate
&
Olga the cook

here we begin with our play.

(dialogues are with attachment file : I have marked all which character should speak which dialogues) {last paragraph on page number 67 is the dialogue of Lushkoff till 'goes the bell' , extremely sorry but l could not add it in the attachment file , hope you understand}

that's all your play is ready
