Calcium reacts with cold water to formcalcium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. Heat produced is so less in which is not enough to burn hydrogen gas. ... The magnesium metal floats on waterbecause the bubbles of Hydrogen gas formed during reaction stick to its surface
