"After all, in someone a power is defined as being proper. If people take the law into their own hands this means that they have to bear the consequences of their actions-often something they are unable to do.
• We are no different than the person that commits the crime when we take the law into our own hands. By becoming a 'judge', 'jury and executioner', we put ourselves above the rules. There's no point in having them if we can't put our confidence in our own laws. They are no longer a civil society without rules, and we will quickly degenerate into a situation in the Wild West. Those with weapons are going to make the rules.
