Let z=tan⁻¹ x

tanz=x and secz=√1+x²

and y=secz

dy/dz=secz*tanz

dy/dz= x√1+x²----------------(1)

dz/dx=d/dx(tan⁻¹ x)

dz/dx=1/(1+x²)------------------------(2)

Now we know that

dy/dx=dy/dz*dz/dx

putting values from (1) and (2)

dy/dx=x√1+x²*1/(1+x²)

dy/dx=x/√1+x²
