Thank You, Lord, for my sister and for the wonderful times that we have shared together. Thank You that You placed us in families and for the privilege of having a sister like mine. Thank You for all that my sister has taught me and the encouragement she has been to me when I have been in time of hardship and distress

Lord, I pray that You would be very close to her and direct and protect her in all she does. Lead and guide her into all truth and draw her ever closer to Yourself.

Lord, I pray that day by day she would draw closer to You and surrender herself to the leading of Your Spirit. May she grow in grace and in a knowledge of Jesus until we all come to spiritual maturity.

Give her the desire and grace to study Your Word and to draw ever closer to You in daily prayer. Bind her thoughts to Your thoughts and her will to Your will so that she may grow in the wisdom and truth that comes only from You. May she excel in the fruit of the Spirit and grow in humility and gentleness, and use her in a mighty way to demonstrate the love and grace of the Lord Jesus in all she says and does. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Heavenly Lord, I come to You today to lift up my dear sister, whose health is failing badly and who needs Your touch of healing on her life. Lord, I know that You are the Giver of life You know exactly what is the problem from which my sister is suffering, and I pray that in a wonderful way You would touch her and heal her as only You can.

Father, I know that You have power to heal and sometimes to choose to heal a person and at other times Your will is to be an ever-present Help in the midst of our distresses. I ask Lord, that whatever the reason for my sister’s deteriorating health that You would give her the sufficient grace that You have promised to all Your children, so that you demonstrate not only to them but to those that have to do with them an amazing grace that only You can provide.

Nevertheless Father, I pray that You will see fit to heal my sister and to raise her to full health and strength, but may Your perfect will be done in her life and we will give you all the praise and all the glory, for You alone are worthy to recover our worship and praise. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Like Teresa of Avila, María de Jesús is also eager for union with God. Her

great desire to encounter God can be seen in her visions. Her experiences of

their briefness hinder her, at times, from more extended interactions with

anybody else she might meet in the visionary realm. When referring to

God, María uses a familial language more reminiscent of the one that a child

uses when addressing his or her parent. God is her dad, and her soul is a

little girl. Their relationship is that of a father and a daughter, which is also

reflected in her affective narrative. María de Jesús depicts God as a doting

father, and she presents herself as a little girl continually seeking her

father’s shelter and affection. In her visions, María sees Christ as a child,

and she expresses aversion towards describing their union with the

metaphor of matrimony.117

Consequently, her language does not become erotic. Teresa of Ávila,

on the other hand, uses this metaphor to describe the mystical union with

God.118 Teresa also refers to God using affective language but not with the

tenderness prominent in María’s journal. Throughout the Vida and The

Way of Perfection, Teresa refers to God as Your Majesty; Eternal Father;

Lord; Your Divine Majesty; Husband; and, My Creator.119

Both María de Jesús and Teresa of Ávila use the image of the Castle

but in different ways. To Teresa the Castle represents the Soul, and God

dwells in its centre To María, on the other hand, the Castle is God, and the

chapels surrounding it are spaces that need to be filled with souls.

Life can be cruel sometimes. Other times, mundane. We travel along our journey wondering “What’s it all about? Is there really any point?” Perhaps there are a few highlights along the way … but much of it, well, you know. But when we live our lives like that it’s sad – because so many people are wandering aimlessly along their path, not realising that God means to bless them. I mean really. And so in this series – A Journey into the Blessings of God – we join the Old Testament Character Ruth on her journey – to discover what God is up to in our lives. And what a journey it is!

Blessed Virgin Mary, pray with us this day for our Sisters and Nuns. In the face of unending need, let them not be discouraged but always serve with joy. Let their hearts, so often moved with pity, always reveal their devotion to your Son. May their faith in Him help them to persevere through seemingly insurmountable tasks.  Guide them Mother, encourage them in their desire to love, as God loves, in a world that often does not love back. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
