Answer:

A pedigree is a diagram that depicts the biological relationships between an organism and its ancestors. A pedigree is used for different animals, such as humans, dogs, and horses. Often, it is used to look at the transmission of genetic disorders.

Procedure for Pedigree analysis :

  • Select a family with anyone of the monogenic traits like rolling of tongue, blood groups, ear lobes, widow’s peak, and colour blindness.
  • Ask the person exhibiting the trait as to who in his/ her family has the trait in question.
  • Prepare a pedigree chart on the basis of the information collected, using appropriate symbols.
  • Examine the pedigree chart carefully to find out whether the disease is autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant, X-linked dominant or recessive, and Y-linked dominant or recessive.
