- Green Revolution is used to contribute to increased in the production of food grain
- Green Revolution was introduced in Indian farmers for cultivation of wheat and rice using high yielding varieties (HYVs)
- The HYV seeds promised to produced to produce much greater amounts of grain on a single plant.
- The Green Revolution required a lot of usage water for irrigation purposes which lead to lowering of ground water.
- The increased use of pesticides led to contamination of water and soil.
- Green Revolution is only possible from combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilisers, pesticides etc.

Green Revolution
The green revolution was the revolution which led to the increase in agricultural production.
It was done by using HYV seeds.
(Here HYV = Higher Yeild Variety)
In India green revolution took place in late 1960s .
The father of green revolution in India is M.S. Swaminathan.
The green revolution is also known as second agricultural revolution.
Firstly this revolution took place in Mexico in the whole World in the 1940s.
Then it spread to other parts of the world.
