I don't know whether I'll be able to express my views correctly, but I'll try.
It is up to the person, because everyone has his own opinions for each person. For example, some people consider alcoholic person as good while some people consider it bad, while my point of view is totally different, there are some exact reasons to drink, like
Some people consider it as royalty, fun, and something which gives pleasure.
Some consider it as pain reliever which is exactly wrong. Actually some people are totally broken from inside but they are never able to express themselves or we can say they have never got someone whom they can express or they think no one will understand them, there can be many possibilities why they are not expressing themselves, so they choose alcohol as their pain reliever, but in actucal, it doesn't do a any single thing, it just make you feel that you are happy because it releases dopamine chemical from our brain { I don't remember properly, but if I'm right, ya it's dopamine } which makes them feel happy. But as soon it's effect is gone, they are in same condition again.
So what is the solution?
They need to believe on someone, if someone is try to help them, they should let him help.

Why person make them wrost so that front person can move on?
This Happen rarely, but if this is happening, then it is clear that who making himself / herself wrost is just because he / she wants that front person should not feel any guilt ever in his /her whole life.
Just imagine you care about someone really from heart, but you tried your best to be with that person but things are against you, then what will you do?
In my opinion, I'll show myself as I don't care, I was just having fun, so that person can easily move on without thinking even for a second.
