Acids

The term acid was originally used to describe any substance that had a sour taste.

Bases

Bases are substances that taste bitter and feel slippery to the skin.

Salts

Salts are neutral compounds. Salt is ionic compounds composed of a metal and a non metal or polyatomic ion.

USES OF ACID,BASES,SALTS

Acids

Sulfuric acid is used in the manufacture of paints, plastics, drugs, detergents and in petrol refining, in lead accumulators and in cleaning of metal surfaces before they are coated with other metals.
Nitric acid is used to prepare dyes, drugs, explosives, fertilizers and quick drying paints. It is also used in the purification of gold and silver.
Hydrochloric acid is used to remove the impurities from the surface of the articles made of iron and steel before galvanization with zinc.

Bases

Sodium hydroxide is used in the manufacture of soap, paper, artificial silk, medicines and organic dyes in the purification of oil products. It is also used as an electrolyte in alkaline batteries.
Calcium hydroxide is used as a material for dressing of acid burns. It is also used as a manufacture of bleaching powder and as an antidote for acid poisoning.
Ammonium hydroxide is used as a reagent in the laboratory, and in removing grease from glass panes, ink spots from clothes.

Salts

Ammonium chloride is used in dry cell, battery and in the manufacture of medicine.
Potassium nitrate as meat preservative and in the manufacture of fertilizers and fireworks.
Sliver nitrate in medicine and photography.
Potassium carbonate in the manufacture of glass and soap.
Sodium bicarbonate in baking and in fire extinguishers.
Sodium hypochlorite in bleaching.
Potash alum in the purification of water.
Calcium sulfate in making moulds and casts.

heya...

here is your answer...

in our everyday life we use many chemicals that are very essential for our life..

there are three types of it

1) acid

2) base

3) salts..

ACID..

you must have tasted the sour taste of an orange ; lemon or some other fruits..

its because the acid present in it..

some common examples include citric acid in citrus fruits
in fact our human body also contains acid..
most commonly known as hydrochloric acid..

it helps in the digestion of food as well as to kill the bacteria entering in our stomach through food..
fatty acids for making soaps, detergents and shampoos.

Other acid like sulfuric acid is most widely used in automobile industries for car batteries and for removing rust from metal surface.

Nitric Acid is used in the manufacture of fertilizers, plastics and dyes.

BASES

in our everyday life bases are found in household cleaners..

for example..soap, toothpastes , eggwhites etc..
They are also present in urine, blood, and intestinal fluid, and other things that we intake like dairy and "TUMS". Blood is also slightly basic in nature.

names of some bases are-
sodium hydroxide(NaOH)

ammonia NH3

potassium hydroxide (KOH)

SALTS

The reaction of an acid and a bases yields two products; water and an ionic compound known as salt.

This kind of reaction is called a neutralization reaction.

For examples; sodium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid and form sodium chloride and water.

Na+ OH- +  H+Cl- ==> H2O + Na+Cl–

the most common salt is NaCl sodium chloride..also known as table salt

as we all know it is mainly used in food.
Sodium chloride is mainly used as a raw material in the preparation of other salts such as NaHCO3, Na2CO3, NaOH etc.

The most common salt of sodium is sodium carbonate or soda (Na2CO3) used in manufacturing of glass.

It is also used in water purification and sewage treatment systems.

Other examples include epsom salts (MgSO4) used in bath salts, ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) used as a fertiliser and baking soda (NaHCO3) used for making breads, cakes and cookies.

Ammonium Sulphate or ammonium nitrate salts are important agro-chemical fertilisers for better plant growth.

Harmful acidic sulphur dioxide gas that emerges as a waste product from power station smoke can be absorbed by basic calcium hydroxide solutions to form harmless calcium sulphate.

hope helped..
