The adrenal glands are small glands located on top of each kidney. They produce hormones that you can't live without, including sex hormones and cortisol. Cortisol helps you respond to stress and has many other important functions.
With adrenal gland disorders, your glands make too much or not enough hormones. In Cushing's syndrome, there's too much cortisol, while with Addison's disease, there is too little. Some people are born unable to make enough cortisol.
Causes of adrenal gland disorders include
Genetic mutations
Tumors including pheochromocytomas
Infections
A problem in another gland, such as the pituitary, which helps to regulate the adrenal gland
Certain medicines
Treatment depends on which problem you have. Surgery or medicines can treat many adrenal gland disorders.

• ADRENAL GLAND •
- Adrenal gland is also known as Super Renal Gland. As they are located on the upper part of both kidneys.
- It has two parts Adrenal Cortex and Adrenal Medulla.
• Adrenal Cortex •
- It secrets :
1. Mineralocorticoids - These hormones are related to minerals like water, Na, K, Cl etc.
it's main hormone is Aldosterone.
Aldosterone acts on DCT and Collecting ducts of nephrons. It activites Na+ - K+ pump.
Disorders -
✓ It's hyposecretion causes loss of minerals including Na+, Cl-. which results in low blood pressure known as Hypotension.
✓ It's hypersecretion causes weakness in muscles, nervousness and high blood pressure (Hypertension) known as Conn's disease.
2. Cortisol - It comes under the category of glucocorticoid. It affects carbohydrate metabolism, fat metabolism and protein metabolism also. It also shows anti-inflammatory response. It is also known as immuno-supressive because it checks immune responses. It also maintains Cardiovascular and Kidney's function as well. It also stimulates RBC production.
It's deficiency may cause a number of symptoms which leads to many diseases. These symptoms are -
✓ It can adversely affect carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolisms.
✓ It's deficiency can weaken immune response.
✓ It's deficiency may causes Cardiovascular dysfunction and kindney dysfunction as well.
3. Sex corticoids / Gonadocorticoids - It also secrets some sex hormes in both male and female.
It's deficiency may lead to poor and improper growth of sex-organs.
• Adrenal Medulla •
- It secrets :
1. Adrenaline / Epinephrine - It is also known as Emergency hormone. It regulates stress, growth and development of the body. It regulates heart rate in panic conditions.
✓ It's hypersecretion causes Cushing syndrome.
*Cushing syndrome -
It's symptoms includes high blood pressure, excessive hunger and sweating, fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, infertility and lack of interest about sex.
2. Noradrenaline / Norepinephrine - It act as vasoconstrictor means it contracts blood vessels due to which blood pressure gets increases.
It's deficiency causes low blood pressure i.e; Hypotension.
