Out of potassium and sodium which one can lose electron easily? Give reason for ur answer... ​

Potassium will lose electron easily because the tendency to lose electron increases as we move down a group.

You will see that the position of potassium is just below sodium in the same group. As we know, that when we move down the group the size of the atom increases and the ionisation potential decreases. So it is easier to remove an electron from potassium as compared to sodium.

For the same reason, in a comparison between potassium and magnesium it holds true. Potassium is below magnesium in the previous group and magnesium is alongside sodium in the period. So the lower the elements are, the lesser in the ionisation potential. So it is easier to remove an electron from potassium as compared to magnesium.

Coming to comparison between potassium and calcium, they are placed across a period, with potasssium appearing before calcium. As we know that the size of the atom decreases across a period and so the ionisation potential increases across a period, it will be easier for potassium to lose electron than calcium.
