so let the present age of shobha's mother be x years and that of shobha be y years

so according to first condition

x=6y (1)

according to the second condition

y+5=1/3x

ie 3(y+5)=x

ie x=3y+15 (2)

so squaring both equations

we get

3y+15=6y

ie 3y=15

so this then

y=5

substituting value of y in any of two equations

we get

x=30

thus present age of shobha's mother is 30 years and that of shobha is 5 years
