Lucas test is used for testing 2degree alcohols

lucas reagent in conc HCL with ZnCl2 and it is reacted with alcohol which gives haloalkane .

R-OH + ZnCl2 ------->(in the presence of conc Hcl) R - Cl

with 2 degree alcohol it becomes milky turbid within 5 minutes
