Answer :
When Bleaching powder reacts with atmospheric CO₂ it forms calcium carbonate and chlorine. Due to formation of chlorine it gives smell like chlorine.
CaOCI₂ + CO₂ = CaCO₃ + CI₃
Bleaching Powder contains chlorine which behaves as disinfectant. It helps in killing harmful microorganism which causes disease. I his process is known as Disinfection. The substance which helps in disinfection is known a Disinfectant.
Therefore bleaching powder is used in Water Treatment Plants to remove microorganism from water.
While diluting an acid it is recommended that the acid should be added to water and not water to acid because if we add water to an accid it reacts violently.
It happens because after adding water to acid initially it forms highly concentrated solution which releases high amount of heat and comes out rapidly from thre vessel w container . So, it is advided to add acid in water not water in acid.
When a solation of acid diluted their its H⁺ ions reacts with hydroxyl ions of water and forms water. Due to which concentration of Hyndronium (H₃O⁺) ion decreases.
Thanks !!!
