Hello there,
Can anyone explain why the S.I. unit of calorific value KJ/kg? because S.I. unit of mass is kg and S.I. unit of energy is joule, so obviously S.I. unit of calorific value should be Joule/kg, but it's KJ/kg can anyone kindly explain why?

Answer:

as one calorie is too small it's just defined as the heat required to boil 1 gm of water

so it's pretty small so we use Kilo Joule
