Immunity is the ability of the body to protect against all types of foreign bodies like bacteria, virus, toxic substances, etc. which enter the body.

Immunity is also called disease resistance. The lack of immunity is known as susceptibility.

Type of immunity:

1. Active immunity involves the production of antibodies by the body itself and the subsequent development of memory cells

2. Passive immunity results from the acquisition of antibodies from another source and hence memory cells are not developed

heya..

➡️Immunity is derived from Latin word “immunis” which means free from burden. In this case burden refers to disease caused by microorganisms or their toxic products.

➡️Therefore Immunity is defined as the state of resistance or in susceptibility to disease caused by particular microorganisms or their toxic products. For example some individuals having genetic deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase are resistant to malaria. Such individuals are said to be immune to Plasmodium.

Explanation:

Adaptive Immunity

There are two types: passive and active. Passive immunity occurs when antibodies are passed from one person to another, as through transfusion for example. The activeimmunity involves two types of white blood cells - T-cells and B-cells.
